Fishing in the Borders

Dumfries & Borders has countless rivers, lochs and reservoirs and over 200 miles of coastline offering great fishing in idyllic surroundings.

The most famous game fishing rivers in Dumfries & Borders include the Annan, Border Esk, Bladnoch, Cree and the Nith. There are many others in the region including the Dee, Urr and the Water of Luce. Come and try your luck at catching sea trout and greyback Solway salmon.

Dumfries & Borders also has fishing oppertunities for coarse fishermen looking for pike and perch, carp, rudd or tench.

The 200 mile coastline of Dumfries & Borders has offered sport to sea anglers for many years. The Flat Rock at Balcary is a very popular location for anglers looking to bag a monster cod and Luce Bay is known for its tope fishing. Many fish species can be caught here including Dogfish, bass, conger, cod, mackerel and pollack. Sea angling trip operators can be found all around the Borders coast or your could try some of the excellent shore fishing marks.

Horse Riding

There are many horse riding facilities throughout Dumfries & Borders where you could experience galloping over tranquil beaches, open moors or scenic forests.

Horse riding and pony trekking are always a popular and memorable activity for children. The riding schools and trekking centres in the region cater for people new to horses and ponies as well as more experienced riders. The vast majority offer lessons, treks and horse-driving instruction.

The Borders Sailing Centre

The Borders Sailing Centre is located on the banks of Loch Ken in the heart of the Borders Hills.  The centre provides an excellent location for all members of the family to enjoy outdoor exciting activities on or off the water. The Borders Sailing Centre offers a range of services which includes activity courses, equipment hire and accommodation.

The activities offered include sailing, windsurfing, power boating, kayaking, canoeing, archery, mountain biking, outdoor laser-quest and climbing.  They cater for groups of all sizes from individuals, families to large school groups.  They offer are ¼ activity packages to week long residential holidays. Visit them for an exciting holiday in a friendly family atmosphere.

We run a wide range of activities including dinghy sailing, windsurfing, power boating, kayaking, canoeing, flat and whitewater kayaking, mountain biking, raft building, team building/initiative exercises, night line and gorge scrambling, abseiling, climbing, zip wire, leap of faith, archery, outdoor Laser Quest, hill walking and orienteering. They also offer watersports instructor training. Equipment is available for hire.
